WaterlaseMD Dentistry uses laser energy and a gentle water spray to perform a wide range of dental procedures without the heat, vibration, and pressure associated with the dental drill. This laser "numbs" the tooth as we work without the need for a shot on most dental fillings. Most dental fillings are done in only one appointment without feeling numb when you leave. We currently use lasers for fillings, cleanings, periodontal therapy, root canals, gingival recontouring, biopsies, desensitizing teeth, cold sores, ulcers, TMD relief, crown lengthening, implant uncovering, frenectomies ( gap between front teeth and tongue tied speech impairment), and bleaching. With many procedures, its possible to use less anesthetic, and often no anesthetic at all.
Lasers have been the standard of care in medicine for many surgical and cosmetic procedures such as LASIK, wrinkle and hair removal and many others. Waterlase was approved for hard tissue procedures in dentistry in 1998. We were so impressed with the many uses of lasers that we have a dental laser in every room.
